Since early 2005 the major feature of Siboney's fabulous garden has been the magnificent Talipot palm which, after nearly thirty years of growth, has reached a height of sixty five feet, including the surmounting efflorescence, it's first and last. The cloud of flowers which can be seen in the photographs has now turned into thousand of cherry sized seeds, and when they finally drop - literally thousands of them - the whole plant will die, and we hope to start the cycle again, with seedlings springing up in island wide locations.
The numerous other palms: Manila, Royal, Queen, Fan, to name a few, reach up through the bougainvillea, the delicate red flowers of the Barbados pride, breadfruit, frangipani, croton, Austrian umbrella plant and host of others. Together they make a botanist's delight.
Banana quits and humming birds crowd around the bird feeders in the ficus trees and frigate birds soar overhead whilst ducks paddle, and stilts and snowy egrets wade, around the logoon under the watchful eyes of pelicans roosting in the mangroves - a delight for the birds watchers and photographers.
